Outdoor Beach Newborn Session at North Topsail Beach
Yes, you can have a newborn session on the beach!
With a little preparation, a smooth newborn session can easily be achieved. You will end up with the CUTEST portraits of your tiny baby’s first moments by the ocean, and it is definitely worth it.
For any newborn session, but especially on the beach, the biggest concern is always the safety of the baby. On the beach, we make sure the baby is shielded from the elements, and that they do not get too warm or too cold while they are out there. We also limit our posing to wrapped poses. Baby does not need to undress fully for these and will remain clothed and wrapped for the session. However, like any newborn activity anywhere, parents will always need to be prepared to feed/change/comfort baby while out on the beach. Parents will also need to acknowledge that while we will pose your baby safely and securely on the beach— baby will inevitably end up with a little sand on them. Again, this will always be minimal, but if you go out on the beach at all, sand is pretty much unavoidable.
This little guy was an absolute dream! We met in North Topsail Beach, I had all our props set up, as well as a large blanket for wrapping and changing, and a chair for Momma to nurse him. Once baby was wrapped up, he was nice and cozy, and perfectly happy to let me take his picture. He was 10 days old and could not be any cuter!
His big sisters were so proud of him, and sooo loving with him. How sweet are they, and how beautiful was the light that night?
Newborn sessions always require extra patience, and go at baby’s pace, but generally parents can plan on about an hour and a half for an outdoor newborn session. Depending on the baby’s disposition, in that time we should be able to get several different wrapped poses with props, as well as family and sibling portraits. Wrapped poses on the beach do not require the baby to undress, but if the climate allows, we can work in a special outfit as well.
Along with our baby clamshell, we also have a little sailboat raft (sooo cute for sitters and toddlers!), as well as driftwood, buckets, a wooden heart, and lots of other fun props for newborn beach sessions.
This little guy’s sisters even brought their mermaid tails!
We also have tails and fins to use if you have siblings who want to dress up with the baby.
